Leadership: The Making of a Manager — Mammoth Edition

Stronger managers. Smoother teams. Better business.
In Mammoth, the off-season gives us a chance to reset, regroup, and get ready for what’s next. It’s also the perfect time to invest in the people who keep your business running every day — your managers.

Across our local business community, owners often share the same experience: a strong employee gets promoted, but suddenly they’re unsure what managing a team looks like day-to-day — no one ever showed them how.

Leading former coworkers. Running meetings. Setting expectations. Giving feedback. Building trust. These skills don’t come automatically, and this course will address these challenges and more.

This spring, the Mammoth Lakes Chamber is launching a three-part leadership and manager course designed to help new and emerging managers step confidently into their role and help businesses build stronger, more effective teams before the next busy season.

Give your managers more than a break this off-season — give them the confidence and skills to lead. The goal is simple: make management something people feel prepared for and proud of.

Built Around a Proven Leadership Guide
The program is based on The Making of a Manager by Julie Zhuo — a practical, easy-to-read guide for modern managers. Course participants will read selected chapters between sessions and apply what they learn in real workplace situations.
Each participant will receive a free copy of the book (yours to keep).

Who Should Attend?

  • New or existing supervisors or managers
  • Emerging leaders ready for more responsibility
  • Business owners wanting to be stronger managers
  • Employees who want to grow their career
Employees interested in attending are encouraged to speak with their employer about participating.

Session Schedule
Sessions will be held in person at the Mono County building from 3pm-5pm. You’ll be in the room with other locals — maybe even a few familiar faces — working through real management situations together. Christine Kennedy, nationally recognized leadership coach, will lead the sessions live via Zoom.

Three sessions — attendance at all sessions required to receive certificate.
April 28
— Getting Connected: values, leadership, and expectations
May 12 — Leading and managing where you are
May 26 — Feedback, personal action plans and more

Certificate of Completion
Participants who attend all sessions receive a course certificate recognizing their leadership development.

Investment (Subsidized Pricing)
Leadership programs like this are typically much more expensive, but thanks to support from the Mammoth Community Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the Mammoth Lakes Chamber, this course is offered at a reduced rate for Chamber members:
