Diversity includes all the ways in which people differ – including psychological, physical, and social characteristics – that make one individual or group different from another. Through diverse experiences and personal choice an individual can be tied to various groups.
Equity is the assurance of fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement of all people. The concept of equity is the awareness of systemic causes of disparities and, more importantly, the action to eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups.
By being inclusive, a welcoming environment establishes a sense of belonging and feeling valued within a group or structure. Inclusivity is respecting all people’s unique perspectives.
