Tough Skin - Strength & Resilience in Body & Mind
In honor of Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Mammoth Hospital's Dr. Pam Mundell shares her expertise as a dermatologist, providing practical tips for protecting your skin, recognizing early signs of skin cancer, and creating a sustainable, healthy routine in our active, high-altitude ski resort town.
Dr. Mundell's personal story as a woman who navigates the demanding world of medicine and a mother who lost her first husband to brain cancer also shows us what it means to have tough skin, mentally and emotionally. Join us for an evening of education, connection, and empowerment, building your strength and resilience in body and mind.
AND since this event occurs on Cinco de Mayo we will have Mexican-style theme with food and, naturally, margaritas.
MORE ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Dr. Mundell is a board-certified dermatologist who is thrilled to be back in Mammoth Lakes with her family and to re-join the Mammoth Hospital community. She couldn’t be happier to bring full-time access to dermatology here in the Eastern Sierra.
Dr. Mundell grew up as a Navy brat (along with Dr. Tim Crall, her big brother), went to college in Minnesota, commissioned in the Air Force and attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University. She spent some time as a flight surgeon and deployed to the Middle East before starting dermatology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. Her first assignment out of training was to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, during which time she built a small dermatology practice here at Mammoth Hospital. When the Air Force called her back to San Antonio to teach dermatology residents, she was pleased to hand the baton to her colleague Dr. Tim Cragun, who has continued to offer dermatology services to the community.
Dr. Mundell separated from the Air Force in 2017 and moved to Duluth, MN where she cared for a rural and hearty community. Her first husband sadly died in early 2019 after a 5 year battle with glioblastoma. Some twists and turns and a pandemic later, she is happily remarried to Dr. Ben Mundell, who joined Mammoth Hospital as a general surgeon. She brought 4 kids to the marriage; he brought their poodle, Lucille.
In her free time, Dr. Mundell enjoys hiking, trail running, Nordic skiing, biking, and canoe trips with her family. Her kids are hockey players and love skiing, mountain biking, and water sports. Mammoth has always been their favorite place. Being able to grow up near their cousins and in the mountains is an incredible gift. Dr. Mundell is excited to build the dermatology practice in Mammoth to provide full spectrum care with a local presence. She has extensive knowledge and experience treating skin cancers as well as chronic skin diseases including psoriasis, eczema, acne, and alopecia. Access to dermatology care has always been a challenge here in the Sierra. Dr. Mundell feels very blessed to have returned to Mammoth and is happy to call the mountains home again.
